Some of you will be aware that we need to provide a person every session to watch the Pool as a backup to the Pool Lifeguards. It is thought more likely that a canoeist will be able to spot another canoeist in difficulty and will be better trained how to rescue them from boats. It has been agreed with the Pool management that in order to provide adequate cover those people need to have completed the BCU Foundation Safety & Rescue Training course. We have been offered a course for the weekend of the 14th & 15th August to be run on the Chelmer at Paper Mill, for a minimum of 10 people and a maximum of 12. The club needs as many members as possible to complete this award, so please advise us if you are interested for the above date or for any future date. The Club is currently funding this course for anyone whether you participate in the Pool sessions or Club events.
If we have 12 members on the rota each member will only have to do the pool rota 4 times a year. This takes much pressure off of the current pool supervisors, Leaveing you all just 4 hours a year to sacrifice. This all so frees up more time for the more experianced members to help coach new comers.
This training provides a great chance to improve your saftey and rescue techniques.
There are no pre-requsits for this course. You can do the course even if your a bit new to kayaking.
