Message from MoD Shoeburyness

October 2, 2018

We have just received the following message from the MoD at Shoeburyness, although it wasn't kayakers causing the issue it is important that we are aware of where there are restrictions on paddling.

If you are interested in the leaflet mentioned then you can look here.

"MOD Shoeburyness – Jetski Incursion 27.09.18 On Thursday 27 September at approximately 14:23hrs, two Jetskis entered the MOD Range Sea Danger Area from the north when the Range was active with live firing activity. Fortunately, they did not enter the weapons danger area for the activity and our Range Safety Boat was able to intercept them. When challenged, they claimed to have no knowledge of the restrictions in the area, even though the exclusion area is clearly marked on widely available nautical charts. The individuals refused to provide any personal details so we do not know where they launched from. Therefore, we are issuing this general reminder to all known watersports clubs in the area and would appreciate it if you could pass on to your members accordingly. Information about the location of the Range Sea Danger Area can be found here on our website. I also attach a leaflet, Staying Safe near the Range Sea Danger Area for you to distribute to your members. If you have any questions about this information, please contact our Careline on 0800 0560108. Being aware of and complying with the restrictions in the Foulness and Maplin Sands area is for your safety and so we appreciate your co-operation."
