Last Saturday evening a number of club members came together for BCC Meet the Members event. This was an informal, sociable evening which consisted of a number of short presentations, conversations, food and drink.
Bridget H. opened the evenings events with an informative talk about how her and husband Paul, along with a couple of other founder members formed Braintree Canoeing Club back in 1972.
Kevin D. presented two very interesting presentations. The first was about White Water kayaking which involved safety, river grading and various short video snip-its.
The second was about Canoe Polo, explaining the basic techniques and principles involved.
Both disciplines attract a high number of club members every week who get involved either at our pool, on the river or at the Lee Valley White Water Centre.
Andy D. talked about flat water river paddles and camping trips that were suitable for all members of any ability as well as families.
There was also in informative video about basic river safety that was relevant to all disciplines.
Sea Kayaking: Dave P. presented a number of fantastic photographs showing some idyllic locations experienced from numerous sea kayaking trips, including Scotland, Wales, The Sicily Isles, local estuaries and coastal regions along with various other open water spaces.
This is a discipline that we feel once you've experienced it, then you'll be hooked!
PS. Don't forget, the club has 2 sea kayaks available for members to use...so there is no costs attached apart from your packed lunch!
Once the presentations ended the buffet (including desserts!) was served and members informally chatted amongst themselves sharing their knowledge and paddling experiences.
Overall, an enjoyable evening was had by all and it was great to share an evening with fellow club members!
