Club Coaching & Training Update

December 4, 2019

Dear Member,

RE: Club Coaching and Training

Earlier this year the BCC Committee Team identified 'Coaching and Training' to be one of its key focuses. Investment in terms of both time and funding is required and consistency and commitment is key for success. Our goal is that over time our club and its members will reap the benefits in many ways, over the short, medium and long-term.

Behind the scenes, discussions have been on-going with committee members and also our club coaches as we look to build a 'coaching and training framework' that our club can now build upon.

By supporting our coaches and with their commitment we are now pleased to begin the next stage of the process by introducing British Canoeing endorsed "PADDLESPORT ACTIVITY ASSISTANTS" (PAA's) to our club.

The Paddlesport Activity Assistant supports the delivery of paddlesport activities by developing volunteers.

The Paddlesport Activity Assistant (PAA) is an endorsement recognised by British Canoeing to support clubs, organisations and volunteers. Paddlesport Activity Assistants can facilitate activity at any time; within the lines of their organisations' Standard Operating Procedures.

The endorsement is targeted towards volunteers, aged 14 and over, within a paddlesport setting to support the menu of activities an organisation has on offer. The Paddlesport Activity Assistant can be for existing volunteers or new volunteers. There is no required previous experience and training and support will be provided through the mentoring from the Paddlesport Activity Assistant Coordinators / Club Coaches.

Starting with small steps, we are initially looking for two volunteers for our coaches to train to become Braintree Canoeing Clubs first Paddlesport Activity Assistants.

Volunteers will ideally be able to regularly attend Saturday morning pool sessions as once qualified they will be able to assist new and existing members during a pool session. Once we are confident in our process and delivery we will then extend our invitation to additional club members who are also interested in becoming a PAA for other club paddling activities as well as Saturday morning pool sessions.

Therefore, if you would like to register your interest about becoming a PAA then please email us your name and contact details to committee@braintreecanoeingclub.co.uk or simply speak to one of our committee members or coaches for further information. The deadline for applications is Saturday 21 December 2019.

It's your club, be part of it.

Regards,

Braintree Canoeing Club Committee and Coaching Team
